While I agree with many points that it does take longer and cost more to sell a home, I don't believe paying excessively to do so. The buyer is probably the main reason for the slowdown right now. With low rates, more availability and motivated sellers, the only part of the equation missing is the buyer. If sellers begin offering 8%-10% commissions they will negotiate less, and even though the seller disburses the commissions following a successful closing, it is the buyer who brings the money to the table. Perhaps we would better serve the public if each principle in a transaction paid for their own representation before/during or after the service is rendered should be between the agent and the client.
